“From check-in, to all hotel’s facilities, guests will experience a responsible stay while protecting the future of the planet.” Fairmont Bab Al Bahr
The Fairmont Bab Al Bahr in Abu Dhabi is leading the way with its commitment to sustainability and reducing its environmental footprint. In a first for the UAE, the hotel has installed its own onsite water-from-air bottling plant which will be fully operational later this month.
The progressive hotel, which is part of the Accor hospitality group, has joined forces with Eshara Water, a UAE-based, technology company to produce high-quality drinking water-from-air. The extracted water is then encapsulated in reusable glass bottles thus eliminating the use of plastic bottles.

What is water-from-air? Eshara atmospheric water generators have been installed in the hotel’s car park to capture moisture in the air which is then filtered to remove dust and particulates before the water is condensed. The water is then passed through a mineralisation chamber before being treated with ultraviolet light to guarantee its purity. Once chilled the natural drinking water is transferred to glass bottles ready for consumption by hotel guests and visitors.
Although this is the first hotel in the region to embrace the revolutionary water-from-air technology, Eshara is already working with other UAE clients such as Mai Dubai and DEWA as well as Neom Sustainable City in KSA.
What’s the advantage of water-from-air? Not only will guests get to enjoy sustainability produced drinking water but this initiative process also eliminates the need for single-use plastic bottles. The operation also reduces the hotel’s carbon footprint and the burden on natural reserves and dwindling groundwater supplies. Water produced in-house eliminates transportation of drinking water to the hotel which in turn helps reduce the overall environmental impact. When in full production the bottling plant can produce up to 4,000 litres of water per day.

The hotel is already committed to a variety of initiatives to reduce carbon emissions, water, energy and waste. All of the 367 guest rooms, suites and villas are now equipped with sustainable products such wooden toothbrushes and combs that have replaced the former plastic versions. The hotel has actively reduced food waste, segregated recycling from general waste and used cooking oils are transformed into biodiesel via an authorised recycling service.
Fairmont Bab Al Bahr is leading the way in sustainable travel and hospitality in Abu Dhabi so this hotel is a great option for those looking to travel responsibly. By offering these practices, the hotel is actively reducing the negative impacts of travel on the environment and economy.
