The Barista Institute offers courses for baristas and coffee enthusiasts in the UAE. The programmes are available in Al Rawdah in Abu Dhabi and Al Quoz, Dubai. I attended the barista experience workshop with head barista trainer Sanjana Heenatigala at DRVN Coffee in the capital.
The 4-hour course covers the history and science of coffee-making alongside practical elements like learning about the equipment needed, how to use it and brewing techniques to make a really good cup of coffee. Additional skills include espresso making, tamping, milk steaming and creating, or attempting to make, latte art.
There are a variety of courses available such as Barista Basics, Latte Art Workshops and everything you need to know about making coffee at home with the Home Barista experience. Aspiring baristas can take the 2-day License to Work course which offers extensive training for those looking to be certified for professional coffee making.
