“New York’s busy streets fell quiet at the start of the pandemic, but they are now picking up again.” CNN Travel
Travel is back! Well a form of restricted travel anyway and for eager Abu Dhabi based wannabe travellers there’s a selection of quarantine-free Green List countries awaiting a visit. Luckily for us one such country was the US so we booked a last minute trip back to New York. It’s had been nine years since we last visited the city that never sleeps, which ironically has been well and truly asleep for the last fifteen months due to the effects of the global pandemic. The city is definitely still waking up and sadly a number of businesses have permanently closed. While it was strange to see this iconic city so quiet and empty of tourists it was also quite enjoyable to explore without the usual throng of people.
With all the necessary forms and PCR tests* completed we headed off on a long awaited adventure that included some new experiences. We stayed for a few nights in North Fork in Long Island, glimpsed into how the other half live in The Hamptons, suffered an intense Manhattan heatwave (not fun) and finished off with some time exploring the fashionable neighbourhood of Williamsburg in Brooklyn.
Here’s a first look at our trip in pictures ….

*We are fully vaccinated so therefore were not required to quarantine on arrival in New York. We had to complete a New York State Traveler Health Form one day prior to departure and receive a green tick for entry. A negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of departure is also required to fly and to enter the USA. We flew direct to New York from Abu Dhabi with Etihad Airways. Other airlines and states may have different requirements so check before you book.
