“Bodytree has been offering health and wellness to the people of Abu Dhabi since 2007, firmly cementing this grass roots space as a home away from home.” Bodytree Studio
With the over indulgent festive season and the start of a new year comes those inevitable ‘New Year, New Me’ personal goals and resolutions that typically see gyms and fitness studios crowded in January. As February and March come around many people have already fallen by the wayside, finding the right fitness routine and facility is not a quick fix but when you do find your perfect place it can boast your mind, body and soul.
Bodytree Studio, the long running, popular yoga, pilates and dance facility in central Abu Dhabi, is one such place. The studio’s schedule offers a good variety of classes created for all levels regardless of age and abilities, the instructors are friendly and knowledgeable and there’s an overall positive vibe. It’s a one-stop place to pursue or continue your wellness journey with nutrition and health focused classes, specialised wellbeing events with subject matter experts and nutritious offerings developed at Nectar, the in-house cafe.
Balanced to offer a variety of classes from early morning until evening the schedule caters for all individuals. Ladies only sessions, mixed classes and specific pre and post natal classes as well as those specifically for children of all ages ensure that there really is something for everyone. Personally I’m a fan of the studio’s Reformer Pilates, Pilates and yoga classes.
Bodytree Reformer classes are small and personal so you get maximum attention and individual advice for posture modifications. Reformer offers versatile exercises to promote length, strength, flexibility and balance using the spring, ropes and weights system. Seeing the machines and all the attachments for the first time can be daunting but you soon get used to them and are guided every step of the way. The carriage can be adapted with additional equipment to ensure a good all-round body workout that concentrates on strengthening the core. The classes are versatile, training different parts of the body, try a class with Anita, a passionate teacher who delivers an upbeat and positive experience. Reformer works the whole body and you definitely feel it the next day, it’s my favourite fitness class.
Yoga is good for the body and mind, the studio’s Gentle Yoga classes teaches basic stretching and relaxation postures. Joelle’s classes are calm, she teaches a series of flowing, slow and basic poses that are perfect for re-centering and relieving stress. Bodytree offers many forms of yoga classes so you are sure to find a practice to suit you whether you are looking for a gentle class like me or a more physically demanding set of postures for the advanced yogi. Pilates mat conditions your whole body and compliments a programme of Reformer and yoga classes.
If you are looking to raise your fitness routine then BTB (Bodytree Body) is for you, the speciality fitness programme developed in-house by co-founder Nadia and instructor Anissa who both teach the classes too. BTB is designed to get your blood pumping around your veins combining dance cardio with high intensity intervals, trust me it’s a session that burns and it’s not for the faint hearted! Take it up yet another notch with BTB Advanced, BTB Shred uses heavier weights and circuits, BTB Bounce is a toning and cardio class on the mini trampolines and BTB Dance focuses on dance cardio.
While exercise obviously improves your physical well-being it also has a positive affect on your mental health helping to relieve stress, improve memory function and induce better sleep. Trying something new and stepping outside your comfort zone is the first step, fitness facilities can be intimidating places but rest assured Bodytree is a welcoming, inclusive place. Kick starting your exercise routine with just 30-minutes of physical activity a week to see improvements in your body and mind, Bodytree Studio can help you start your exercise journey or elevate your current routine. If I can do it so can you!
