My third visit to the tropical island of Sri Lanka was once again to the Southern Province to stay in a clifftop villa located between Mirissa and Weligama. This part of the island, known as the Wonder of Asia, has a relaxed vibe with coconut palm fringed beaches that attract surfers in the first months of the year and offers incredible nightly sunsets. Days are spent lazing about in the sun sipping fresh coconuts fashioned into animals and sampling fresh, traditional Sri Lankan food. Colourful tuk tuks jostle on the roads and beach bars come alive as the sun starts to set.
This trip included a couple of days exploring the capital, the busy fume filled Colombo where it’s rush hour every hour. Formerly known as ‘the garden city of the East’ Colombo is a heady mix of traditional and new with trendy restaurants, cafes, shops and hotel popping up in amongst the old shopping areas, temples and markets. Take a tuk tuk tour to fully embrace all the sights, sounds and aromas of this sprawling city. Here’s a first look at our trip in pictures…..
