Restaurant Month with Chef Tom Aikens | The Abu Dhabi EDITION

I like to do a whole host of different cuisines and tastes and experimentation. It’s nice and also it just shows I can do from fine-dining to casual eating.” Tom Aikens

British celebrity chef Tom Aikens was in the capital last week to debut new, signature set menus at his three restaurants in the very stylish Abu Dhabi EDITION located downtown in Al Bateen Marina.

Acclaimed chef Aikens, the youngest chef to run a two star Michelin star restaurant (when he was a head chef at Fitzrovia’s Pied à Terre aged only 26), has created new dishes at Market at EDITION, Alba Terrace and The Oak Room as part of the popular hotel’s restaurant month. The menus, available until 10th October, offer a starter, main and dessert with Middle Eastern and Asian inspired healthy dishes at Market, tasty Mediterranean flavours at Alba Terrace and British classics such as steak and trifle at the Oak Room.

As well as cooking up a treat with his team of chefs for assembled guests, Aikens held a series of workshops and demos during his stay. Diners at the light and airy, plant filled Market can expect a menu packed with exotic flavours; tuna with lime and chilli mayo followed by turmeric grilled chicken that goes under the name of Mellow Yellow. Roasted pineapple drizzled with caramel sauce served with miso and caramel ice cream is the finale of the trio of flavoursome dishes.

The Alba Terrace menu is packed with Italian flavours; pressed beef tomato salad to start, spatchcock baby chicken with olives, oregano and creamed spinach for main and a coffee panna cotta to finish. Oak Room, the steakhouse with a touch of rock and roll, has its own a meat sommelier Charlie Grainger so expect the very best cuts. Traditional British cuisine is on the menu here that can be paired with a selection of fine wines.

Definitely a menu for meat lovers with carpaccio of seared, peppered and thinly sliced beef tenderloin followed by black angus flank steak with sides and sauces. Try the warm, fresh brown sourdough too served with the most delicious marmite butter (it’s a love or hate marmite moment which may convert the latter). Dessert is individual mixed berry trifles with vanilla custard and jam, a sweet taste of home.

Overall the new menus offer beautifully presented, delicious food across all three venues. Each menu is very different to reflect the personality of each of the restaurants but all equally worth a try. Don’t forget to pop into the Library Bar for a pre-dinner drink and if you are planning a weekend visit be sure to check out The Annex for a nightcap.
