“Classic Greek dishes with a contemporary twist.” Eat Greek
What better way to prolong my Mykonos holiday vibes than with an evening filled with authentic Greek food at the newly opened Eat Greek Kouzina (kitchen) at The Galleria on Al Maryah Island. Taking up one corner of Bentley’s Bar & Grill, Eat Greek is an intimate venue and a delightful addition to the Abu Dhabi dining scene. Fresh Greek produce flown in from the Aegean Islands, authentic dishes and delicious cocktails paired with really good friendly service, what more is there to say except bring on the feta.
The food is homely and traditional, the sizzling baked feta was a winner, the aubergine dip served with warm toasted pitta was super tasty and moorish. The other half tried Soutzoukakia à la Grecque to start; spicy lamb and beef meatballs served in a tomato salsa. The portions are certainly generous, we tried Gemista three stuffed peppers with potatoes as a veggie main and a classic moussaka, both were very filling.
My favourite was the loukoumades, small sweet deep fried balls of dough traditionally served with honey but if like me you can’t resist nutella that is offered as the alternative option. You may find that however full you are you still polish off the whole basket.
Unlike many of Abu Dhabi’s restaurants that can be vast and lacking atmosphere, Eat Greek is intimate and has the feel of a cozy taverna. Its rustic decor, the Greek background music and table settings, complete with fresh lemons and olive oil, enhance the theme. A warm welcome is guaranteed along with attentive service, an evening at Eat Greek is a must do. Restaurant manager Argiris who hails from Athens, is enthusiastic and passionate about his home cuisine and the Eat Greek concept.
I like the extra touches, maps in the menu showing the source of the produce, the customary blue and white checked napkins. The presentation and flavours of the cocktails that are named after Greek places are worth a revisit alone . Step back through history with each bite of these authentic dishes while enjoying the modern mixology menu that is only available in this licenced venue (Eat Greek in Dubai does not served alcohol). If you are craving good and affordable Greek food in the capital visit Eat Greek, grab an outside table on the terrace to enjoy seaviews and imagine yourself on a little whitewashed island.
