A Sense of Place Afternoon Tea | Rosewood Abu Dhabi

The experience offers tea lovers the chance to enjoy a variety of menus during the leisurely afternoon hours.” Rosewood Abu Dhabi

The Majlis lobby lounge, the Rosewood Abu Dhabi’s elegant ground floor dining room, is just the spot for a luxury afternoon tea. The large, light space has floor-to-ceiling windows that offer waterfront views and guests have the option to dine inside or when the weather allows outside on the Majlis terrace.

A Sense of Place Afternoon Tea offers five separate menus served with unlimited tea and coffee or free-flowing bellinis. Diners can choose from either a classic English Afternoon Tea, the Best of Dai Pai Dong, a Levantine afternoon tea, the Vegan Experience or the Strictly Vegetarians menu. There’s an additional gluten-free tea available upon request with 24-hours notice.

I selected the Strictly Vegetarian option, a three-tiered tea featuring miniature sweet and savoury bites. Traditional crustless sandwiches were replaced with delicate veggie treats including burrata and tomato, a circular egg sandwich wrapped in cucumber and three mini rolls filled with grilled vegetables, avocado with sun-dried tomato and mushroom. The scones, one plain and one chocolate chip, were served with clotted cream and preserves. I actually prefer scones with raisins and to be served warm. The colourful sweet selection included a delicious strawberry sable breton, dark chocolate mousse cake, opera and pistachio cakes. There was also a white chocolate cup with passion fruit coconut meringue and a square chocolate covered hazelnut caramel cake.

There really is something for every taste and dietary requirement. The classic afternoon tea offers savoury favourites such as Alaskan salmon, slow cooked beef and pesto chicken sandwiches. The best of Dai Pai Dong has a Chinese themed tea menu with dim sum, crispy duck salad, mango sago pudding and egg tarts. Hot and cold mezze and sweet temptations such as baklava and halva bel jebne feature on the Arabic menu in the Levantine tea. The Vegan Experience includes spiced avocado brioche, seared tofu & orange sandwich, rhubarb berry shooter and peanut truffle.

The Rosewood’s Sense of Place menu offers afternoon tea lovers the chance to explore a variety of cuisines in a stylish setting. I love the multi-concept approach that pairs the more traditional with new ideas. It’s perfect for a catch-up with friends, a family treat or to celebrate a special occasion. Overall the food was enjoyable and well presented and albeit from a few basic service issues it was a pleasant experience.
