Who doesn’t love an Irish sports bar? McGettigan’s, a firm favourite with the UAE’s expat community, has opened its second* Abu Dhabi venue at the Dusit Thani hotel.
Known for its warm Irish welcome, traditional pub food, drinks promotions as well as live sport and entertainment (coming soon), the new McGettigan’s is bringing its own kind of cheeky Gaelic charm to the capital’s dining and nightlife scene. This new venue, with its shiny new decor and flashes of the emerald isle, comes with the added bonus of being smoke-free.
The interior is divided into different areas with a large bar, open kitchen, the library and although not the biggest venue there’s plenty of seating. Expect a bold, some may say, garish interior with bright colours and plenty of screens showing live sport. There’s a gallery wall of famous Irish faces, quite the challenge to spot everyone you recognise amongst the more well-known like Conor McGregor and Bono.
With Friday brunching so popular, McGettigan’s has launched its own interpretation, the Unlimited Friday Roast that offers diners a selection of pub classic dishes accompanied by unlimited drinks. Two packages are on offer with either standard (AED 280) or the premium selection (AED 360), both include beers, wines, house spirits and cocktails.
Food wise all the starters on the menu are served on a sharing platter. Four dishes including crispy calamari, loaded beef chilled nachos, caesar salad (minus any chicken) and my personal favourite, cheesy Arancini balls with a spicy tomato sauce.
With the title of Unlimited Friday Roast you would expect a choice of roasts but surprisingly there is only one option on the menu. A generous helping of Irish beef with a yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese, vegetables and plenty of tasty gravy (I opted for a vegetarian version without the beef). Other mains on offer are salmon or chicken cordon bleu served with vegetables and a vegetarian choice of fettuccine fresco.
Save room for a traditional dessert like apple pie and custard, a moist sticky toffee pudding and an indulgent Bailey’s cheesecake. Those who want to keep the brunch party going can enjoy Evening Drunch, five beverages for just AED100 from 4pm – 11pm
McGettigan’s is a great addition to the hotel’s dining options and with daily promotions like ladies and lads nights, there’s something for everyone. The Friday brunch is a casual affair that’s really good value. It’s still early days so it might still be a bit quiet but native Irishman Liam and his team guarantee you a great welcome and attentive service.
