The Great Steakout | Marco Pierre White, Fairmont Bab Al Bahr

Success is born out of arrogance, but greatness comes from humility.” Marco Pierre White

If you are a meat lover with a big appetite then you simply must visit Marco Pierre White (MPW) Steakhouse and Grill on Wednesday evenings to indulge in all you can eat steak at The Great Steakout.

Yes, you read that right, you can literally stuff your face with prime cuts of beef until the cows come home, excuse the pun! Diners can enjoy unlimited steak, sides, sauces and free flowing beverages every Wednesday from 6.00pm at the fine dining restaurant located at Fairmont Bab Al Bahr hotel. Good news for vegetarians like myself, you can accompany your carnivorous friends as MPW caters for our vegetable eating ways with a rather tasty asparagus risotto served with all the trimmings too.

The other half and I were lucky invitees to sample The Great Steakout for ourselves this week. The evening started with beautifully presented sharing antipasti type appetiser served on wooden platters as well as additional boards filled with artisan breads. Grilled asparagus and zucchini, mini pizzetta, tomato & mozzarella and roasted pepper bruschetta, gherkins, grapes, blue cheese, wagyu beef carpaccio, feta stuffed olives, capers, peppers, mini caesar salad and mixed lettuce made for a colourful and tasty selection.

For the main course MPW prime steaks were on offer including the certified angus beef, prime striploin, or prime ribeye cooked according to individual preference, accompanied by a selection of sauces such as peppercorn, mushroom or classic bordelaise and sides of colourful vegetables, triple cooked chips, Italian veal sausage, crispy parmesan and herb coated onion rings and potato dauphinoise. Just when you thought this deal was too good to be true you realise that it also included free flowing house wines and beer, Wednesday’s nights never looked so good (Thursday mornings less so).

FullSizeRender_1For those competitive folk who REALLY fancy themselves as big eaters there’s the eating contest to end all eating contests, the Tomahawk Challenge. 1kg of prime steak to be consumed in its entirety (without the bone of course) with all the sides (there were a lot of sides) and a litre beverage of choice within thirty minutes and no absolutely excuses!

Competing against the clock successful contestants who manage to consume the huge hunk of meat with garlic mashed potatoes, chips, potato dauphinoise, sautéed mushroom, cherry tomatoes, spinach, carrots and asparagus with a sauce of course and the selected beverage get their meal FREE and a gift to remember the event, probably will need to lie in a dark room with some sort of digestive aid too. On our table five plucky fellows took the challenge (record is currently eighteen minutes held by hotel GM Eddy Tannous!!) but sadly even though it was all super competitive and they all consumed a LOT of food no-one completed the challenge within the required half an hour time limit but it was certainly fun watching!

If you still have room at the end (who doesn’t always have space for sweet treats) there’s mouthwatering desserts including a molten chocolate cake, lemon tart and strawberry cheesecake to name a few. The Great Steakout is fantastic value for money, the restaurant is chic and the service impeccable, there’s really no excuse not to try it. Wednesday’s 6pm at Marco Pierre White Steakhouse at the Fairmont Bab Al Bahr hotel, put in it in your diary right now and make sure you go with a big appetite.
