“Education is an admirable thing, but it is well to remember from time to time that nothing worth knowing can be taught.” Oscar Wilde
The eldest’s Graduation from University in Bristol was an extremely proud and emotional day spent celebrating with extended family. After our pre-ceremony lunch at The Cowshed Bar and Grill in Clifton (read about it here), the other half and I attended the colourful ceremony in the beautiful Bristol Cathedral, a tear jerking moment indeed.
The seriousness was lifted in a spilt-second of humour when one plucky graduate asked the Vice-Chancellor, Professor West, for an on stage mid-ceremony selfie, a moment he later referred to in his jovial speech as a first for him in over twenty years of graduation events. After a glass of bubbly or two in the reception marquee we joined the eldest’s fellow graduates and our family for some windswept photos.
Next stop was the picturesque terrace of the White Lion Bar, part of the Avon Gorge Hotel in Clifton for more congratulatory drinks with more friends and spectacular panoramic views of Isambard Kingston Brunel’s Clifton Suspension Bridge and surrounding countryside. The day was topped off with a party at one of our Bristol based family members beautiful houses, before we retired for the night with the teenager while the boys partied into the wee small hours in the city’s many bars. Here’s an extract of the day in pictures.
