Weekly Photo Challenge: Threshold and Monument

Where liberty is, there is my country.”  Benjamin Franklin

Oops majorly cheating here by combining two weeks of photo challenges in one post and my only excuse……the media file on my WordPress account was playing up due to a major fail on my part!

I am using photos from a summer trip to NYC in 2012 of the Statue of Liberty which is obviously the monument part and the Ellis Island museum for the threshold part. For some of the immigrants who came to America, Ellis Island was the threshold to their new life and freedom (it was America’s busiest immigrant inspection station from 1892 until 1954). I know there’s bit of poetic license going on there by stretching the threshold element ……..so late and stretching the subject matter, must try harder next week, oh wait that’s this week already!

ImageThe Ellis Island Great Hall was once lined with rows of chairs filled with immigrants waiting for their inspections to be completed as part of the application process for their new life in America.
