“Knobbly ones, wrinkly ones, different shapes and sizes, there is a bountiful supply of shiny pumpkins, quirky gourds and lumpy squashes.” Tulleys Farm
Pumpkin picking is an American tradition but it’s certainly increased in popularity over the past few years in the English countryside. As the Autumn days set in visiting a local pumpkin patch is a great family activity as long as, unlike us, you avoid a wet and windy experience.
The popular Tulleys Farm is about a 30-minute drive from Brighton located in the country lanes near Crawley in West Sussex. The huge 20-acres ‘Pick Your Own’ pumpkin fields produce over 150,000 pumpkins every year and are accessible and affordable to visit. Entry tickets start from just £2 per person but this year due to COVID-19 social distancing safety measures time slots must be booked online.
Tulleys has pumpkins of all shapes, sizes and colours all perfect to take home for Halloween carving and for making pumpkin pies. Just select your favourite and get it measured on the way out to find out it’s price (as a guide the hefty one in my photos was a mere £3). Prices range from 50p to £10. There’s lots of props in the fields if you are looking for a certain Instagram shot and a Halloween area with scary scenes for even more photo opportunities. Be aware the fields are pretty muddy so definitely wear boots of some description..
Tulleys have two cafe areas so you can grab a hot chocolate and a bite to eat including some delicious homemade cakes. Lots of free parking too. Great set-up and fun thing to do weather permitting.
