“An urban oasis of tranquillity overlooking the Arabian Gulf.” InterContinental Abu Dhabi
Take advantage of the sunny weather before the hot, humid summer days set in with a day at The Bayshore located in the heart of the capital at the five-star InterContinental Abu Dhabi. Nestled in the marina this award winning, family-friendly beach and health club offers visitors an opportunity to relax on its natural beach, by the pool or in one of the seven luxury cabanas.
The hotel’s natural beachfront underwent an intensive makeover back in 2014 and re-opened as The Bayshore, a large private premium beach club swayed in palm trees that’s an oasis of calm and relaxation. We spent a day relaxing in the sun, dividing our time between the sun-loungers on the white, sandy secluded beach and in our private cabana complete with on-call butler service. While the cabanas offer comfort and privacy, they are in the most shaded area and only three of the seven (5, 6 & 7) offer nice outlooks so be careful to choose one without a view of the pool facilities room or one next to the bathrooms.
The large infinity pool has a popular swim-up bar where you can relax with a premium beverage or cocktail while enjoying views across the Arabian Gulf or simply chill in the outdoor jacuzzi. Younger members of the family are well catered for with a separate shaded children’s pool complete with a waterslide, toddler splash pool and an outdoor play area.
For the more active guests there’s a fully equipped glass-fronted gym offering beach views and for an additional cost there’s water sports available including banana boat rides and jet skis. There’s also a Padi Dive centre, beach volleyball, paddle boarding, kayaking, garden games and a day spa offering massages and treatments some of which are also offered in the cabanas.
The Bayshore restaurant has a varied menu of light snacks, salads, larger plates and refreshing alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Dine at the restaurant itself or, as we did, in your cabana, you can also order food and drinks to your sun lounger. Choose from freshly prepared bites such as spring rolls, wagyu burger, sandwiches or delicious flatbreads. We were treated to a fresh fruit platter on arrival and tried one of the sandwiches and bbq chicken flatbreads accompanied with mocktails and iced teas, the perfect beachside cuisine.
Hotel guests can utilise all the beach clubs amenities free of charge as in-house guests and visitors are welcome with the purchase of a day pass. Apart from the changing rooms that are in need of some TLC and the somewhat sporadic cabana service we enjoyed our relaxing afternoon.
