“The SPA – Retreat, rejuvenate and revitalize at the Radisson Blu Hotel.” Radisson Blu
Abu Dhabi has many five-star luxury spas and needless to say once you have experienced one of these your expectations are forever raised. The Spa at the Radisson Blu Yas Island, a four-star property, is a separate facility located on the mezzanine level and is less fancy than some of its counterparts in the capital. The overall service, however was good with a select range of wellness and beauty treatments that includes body wraps, therapeutic massages, body scrubs and HydroPeptide facials.
My daughter and I visited The Spa using a 2-for-1 massage voucher from my Entertainer Abu Dhabi App which entitled us both to a 60-minute Aroma Signature massage for under four hundred dirhams.
The Experience ~ The full body Aroma Signature massage combined techniques from East and West with a pre-blended aromatherapy oil which, so I was told, had therapeutic benefits. The hour-long treatment, part of The Spa’s Wellbeing menu, began with a short consultation so that my massage can be tailored to personal requirements in terms of specific target areas and pressure used. There was no choice of oil, mine was a lavender blend with a grape-seed base, which I discovered later after telephoning post treatment for clarification.
Unlike most experiences there was no foot cleansing at the start of the treatment, overall the massage was ok and did help ease my shoulder tension but it was not memorable. The treatment rooms are basic and there was no aftercare service, our therapists just disappeared.
The results ~ A relaxing but no frills experience
Pros ~ Affordable
Cons ~ An average experience compared to other spas I’ve experienced
Spa guests that book treatments of an hour or longer are entitled to use the spacious relaxation area (seperate male and female areas) before and after treatments that offers a sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. The area is large and clean but dated and could definitely benefit from a makeover and an injection of colour. Post-treatment tea and dates were served here too, there was also fresh lemon and mint water and complimentary apples.
The spa menu offers signature indulgence treatments for men and women and Hot stone, De-stress and Classic Swedish massages as well as a specialised pregnancy treatment. Body treatments include a 60-minute rejuvenating body scrub and a 90-minute invigorating body treatment. There are four different facials for ladies including the 90-minute Fire and Ice Renew facial and a Refuel signature designed for men, additional add-ons such as eye and lip treatments are available at an extra cost. A full range of waxing services are also available.
The Spa uses pre-blended essential oils (declined to provide me with the brand name) for massages and HydroPeptide, the market leader in luxury peptide-based anti-aging skin care, for facial treatments including the restorative Illuminating Facial.
The Spa at Radisson Blu Yas Island is good if you are looking for a treatment without all the frills, the relaxation area is not somewhere I would spend too much time. There is however, a nice outdoor pool area with views of Yas Links Golf Course and a fitness centre for hotel guests with day passes available.
