From humble beginnings in 1999, iconic Australian skincare brand Sodashi founded by Megan Larson, has evolved into a renowned global brand available in luxury spas worldwide. Way ahead of the times, Larson devised and formulated her organic products initially for personal use only in her kitchen. The 100% chemical free skin and body care products and spa therapies use only natural sources from the earth and sea, including pure plant extracts and essential oils. Sodashi, which in Sanskrit translates to wholeness, purity and radiance, products not only regenerate the skin but also heal and nurture.

I was privileged to meet Larson herself at the Four Seasons Abu Dhabi, a humble, down-to-earth and inspiring lady. I got to sample first hand Sodashi’s Body Brilliance Cream, a natural skincare product infused with Madagascan Vanilla that hydrates and nourishes the skin and offers anti-ageing benefits especially for sun-damaged and dry skin. I made a facial mist with the lady herself after selecting different scents to create my own unique blend. I also received a copy of her impassioned autobiographical book, Startups & Self-care detailing the trials and tribulations of setting up a global brand.

I was invited back to Dahlia Spa to sample the Sodashi Tension Relief massage, a bespoke treatment that combines the therapeutic benefits of massage with natural aromatherapy oils to relieve areas of muscular tension.

The Experience ~ The Sodashi Tension Relief Massage is customised to each guest’s requirements, the treatment is designed to relax and detoxify as well as relieve tension from targeted areas. All treatments at Dahlia Spa begin with a foot treatment and a consultation, my therapist Ninsiima and I discussed my requirements in regards to pressure and the areas that required extra attention.

Inhalation of three different aromatherapy oils are part of the treatment process to intensify the relaxation process. Wholeness was the first oil offered at the end of the foot cleansing, a blend of mandarin, vanilla and jasmine to soothe the nervous system and aid deep relaxation. Purity was next, offered once face down on the heated massage table, a fusion of grapefruit, juniper and cypress fused to relieve tension and rid the mind of negativity. The last blend Radiance, a combination of sweet orange, ylang ylang and damask rose was used to revive and uplift the senses, support relaxation and offer comfort inhaled before the final stage of the treatment.

Ninsiima used a combination of deep tissue, Swedish, lymphatic drainage and acupressure massage techniques to release tension with extra attention to my shoulders and neck as requested. The deeply relaxing massage stimulates circulation and re-balances the body’s energy while working deep into the muscles to release tension and toxins. The Awaken Toxicleanse detoxifying natural body oil has botanical extracts of cypress and juniper berry blended to actively promote circulation, relieve fluid retention, reduce puffiness and eradicate accumulated toxins. This massage is perfect for optimum relaxation but also for those suffering from jet-lag, an unbalanced diet and exposure to everyday pollution.

The results ~ My skin felt moisturised, soft and well hydrated and my body was tension free. The products not only feel amazing on your skin but smell divine.

Pros ~ An excellent massage with truly exceptional organic products. I enjoyed my first experience of the three step aromatic inhalation process and the combination of massage techniques used by the very professional and knowledgeable Ninsiima.

Cons ~ That the treatment only lasted 50 minutes as it was so good.

The overall experience at award winning Dahlia Spa was as always first-rate. All the staff offer a warm and friendly welcome and exemplary service. The modern and elegant spa has eight treatment rooms all with private showers as well as the couples suite with a jacuzzi. The therapeutic relaxation areas are a must visit, offering guests a large heated hydro pool, sauna, ice fountain, heated lounge chairs with waterfront views and a Moroccan hammam.
