“Rebound exercise is the most efficient, effective form of exercise yet devised by man.” NASA
Have you heard of BOUNCE FIT? It’s the new fitness class coming to Abu Dhabi this week at the BOUNCE trampoline park in Marina Mall. Already a huge hit at BOUNCE Dubai, capital dwellers can now get involved in this fun activity without travelling to our neighbouring emirate.
Last night the other half (aka the fitter and more bouncy one) and myself were invited to test out this new class ahead of its launch later this week (first class 9am on Thursday 6th October). Like the facility itself BOUNCE FIT is all about fun but don’t let the brightly coloured vibrant venue and smiley instructors fool you, it’s an intense workout that’s hard and exhausting.
Think the 80’s, bursts of bright colours, music pumping and lots and lots of bouncing, all that was missing was a retro toweling headband. Now I haven’t been on a trampoline for ages (I was never that good when I did venture on in the back garden at home) and my fitness level is pretty much non-existent but that didn’t stop it being great fun. Our charismatic instructor Ediger kept things moving as he bounced about from one trampoline to another like an over excited kangaroo shouting give me another ten Mr Motivator style.
The high spirited one-hour class offers a high-intensity low-impact cardio workout that burns calories fast, it will have your core screaming, your heart pumping and your muscles aching. The energetic class includes a warm-up, free jumping exercises and cool down with stretching. Favourites like squats and the plank are included in the routine and props such as dodge balls are used with more advanced bouncers, with lots of exercises in the instructor’s repertoire two classes are never the same so things are always interesting and exciting in every session.
NASA, those clever space scientists have carried out a survey and claims that ten minutes bouncing on a trampoline is a better cardiovascular workout than thirty-three minutes of running, I’m all for time saving exercises routines and ones minus any running are even better. In BOUNCE FIT the majority of the impact is absorbed by the trampoline so bones and weight-bearing joints are protected, the exercise routine also improves posture and general muscle health as well as core strength. Trampolining is also good for co-ordination, balance, agility and for overall conditioning. It’s also been cited as good for mental health too, as it releases endorphins which can help to make you feel uplifted, combat stress and anxiety, spookily I read today that exercise is the most underused antidepressant. Believe me even if you are struggling to keep up you are still smiling and laughing throughout the session, beginners will learn basic jumping skills and sessions are tailored to suit all abilities.
Originating in Australia BOUNCE arrived in the UAE two years ago with its first facility opening in an industrial warehouse in Al Quoz in Dubai. Following the enormous success of the foray into the Dubai activities market, partners Ross Milton and Doran Davies opened BOUNCE Abu Dhabi at the rear of Marina Mall (filling the eyesore that was the abandoned concrete ski slope) in July this year offering bouncers an even larger facility with one hundred interconnected trampolines where you can literally fly through the air and bounce off the walls. It’s not just about trampolining though as this huge facility also offers a Zip Line, Quick Drop (a freefall experience for the bravest of folk), slacklines, the Mammoth 40-metre slide, infinity wall and two dodgeball courts. For those looking for even more excitement BOUNCE Abu Dhabi has two stunt-style giant air bags and waterfall trampolines so you can jump higher and farther than ever before onto the biggest airbag in the UAE. Not a company to stand still, BOUNCE is constantly evolving and this week sees the launch of its third facility, BOUNCE Al Ain in Remal Mall.
This adrenaline pumping activity is great fun for all the family, no matter your age or fitness levels BOUNCE Abu Dhabi has something for everyone whether it’s back flips, seat drops or throwing yourself into a giant inflatable. A great way to channel your inner child, get the kids exercising and tire them out in the process, throw a birthday party in one of the five party rooms or even bring work colleagues for a fun team building activity. For those non-bouncers or those who just need a break, BOUNCE has a tuckshop where you can watch all the action from its elevated location at the top of the facility, the perfect place to grab a coffee and a healthy bite to eat too.
Does your fitness regime need a jump start? Fancy burning up to a 1000 calories in just one hour? Need a new class to spice up your existing routine? BOUNCE Fit held at the BOUNCE trampoline park in Abu Dhabi’s Marina Mall promises just that, so grab your stretchy lycra, striped grip socks and bounce yourself fit.
