“We shall draw from the heart of suffering itself the means of inspiration and survival.” Winston Churchill
As a supporter of Breast Cancer Charities and Hospice events in the UK in memory of my mother who was tragically beaten by the disease over twenty years ago, I was pleased to be able to support a local event here in the UAE. Myself and a friend donned the required pink item of clothing and headed over to Cafe Arabia, a popular local cafe and art hub in a converted three storey villa, who were selling pink baked goods and exhibiting local artists’ specially commissioned pink artwork to raise funds for Breast Cancer Arabia (BCA). Now eating pink cup cakes and drinking coffee for charity is something I can excel at and it’s for such a good cause too, a win win situation, cheers to you mum!
Tasty Pink Cupcake at Cafe Arabia
Café Arabia under the guidance of owner Aida Mansour chose to support BCA to raise awareness of the disease by turning the establishment pink for the day on October 3rd. All the proceeds of donated items from local artists, crafters and businesses sold on the day were donated to BCA, along with 50 percent of the sale of pink cupcakes. Cafe Arabia is a great venue, very popular with locals and expats where art adorns the walls and beautiful traditional Arabian lanterns dangle from the ceilings.
BCA supports courageous women and their families here in the UAE by giving them hope and financial support for breast cancer treatment as well as supporting awareness for early and regular check-ups for both women and young girls.
The official ‘Abu Dhabi Goes Pink’ campaign by Breast Cancer Arabia
The Cafe Arabia event is part of a calendar of events that Breast Cancer Arabia has organised as part of the official ‘Abu Dhabi Goes Pink’ campaign. This citywide awareness campaign is aimed at supporting women diagnosed with breast cancer who are unable to afford their surgery and treatment.
More of events from Breast Cancer Arabia to raise awareness in AD
October is known all over the world as Breast Cancer Awareness month, with the adopted colour of Pink dominating events to raise both awareness and funds to help women fighting the disease and their families. Much like the iconic red Poppy sold for Remembrance Day, Pink Ribbons are sold to raise awareness about Breast Cancer.
