“CLYMB is home to the world’s largest indoor skydiving flight chamber and world’s tallest indoor climbing wall, appealing to thrill seekers from around the world.” CLYMB ABU DHABI
Thrill seekers now have yet another reason to visit Yas Island with the opening of CLYMB Abu Dhabi, the ultimate custom-built adventure hub that offers a giant climbing wall and thrilling skydiving experiences. Home to the world’s largest indoor skydiving flight chamber and the world’s tallest indoor climbing wall, CLYMB opened to the public last Friday.
The futuristic, geometric structure, located next to Ferrari World Abu Dhabi and accessed through Yas Mall, joins the ever-growing leisure and entertainment attractions on Yas Island. In true UAE style, CLYMB offers residents and visitors two record-breaking experiences perfect for those adventurous types looking for their next challenge.
Expert instructors are waiting to welcome guests of all ages and skill levels from novice to experienced climbers featuring five different walls of varying heights and difficulty. Rope climbing and bouldering (without the use of ropes or harnesses) are both available, The Boulder (9.8 feet) is the place to start to learn the skills, The Beginner (20 feet) is good for new starters and for those looking to try a harder wall and The Intermediate (33 feet) offers more challenging routes and is equipped with Auto Belay devices.
The Intermediate Advanced Wall (72 feet) is for experienced climbers to challenge themselves and practice techniques in preparation for the SUMMYT. Definitely not for the fainthearted but more for the fearless, The SUMMYT at 141 feet (43 meters) is nearly double the height of the Advanced Wall, the sheer size is definitely daunting when you look up from the ground. As it’s a top rope wall (climbers are securely attached to a rope) beginners can still attempt it, allowing everyone to have full access to all the walls that CLYMB offers.
The team of highly trained instructors are there to teach climbing skills whether its bouldering, auto belay, top rope or lead climbing, courses for belaying and lead climbing will be available to help climbers progress to the next level. Climbing tickets start from AED 120 (adults) AED 95 (children 9-13 years) for a 90-minute beginner session.
With three levels, CLYMB offers skydiving experiences for first timers, return flyers and pro flyers meaning everyone is able to take to the air under the guidance and supervision of the sky diving instructors. The chamber is a colossal 10 meters (32 feet) wide chamber and reaches 32 meters (104 feet) high with sixteen fans, four times more than in a standard skydiving chamber. First time flying experiences start from AED 215 (This package is available for 3 years old and above).
I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek at the facility during the pre-opening event which saw professionals showcasing the state-of-the-art facilities. Record-breaking skydiver, BASE jumper and all-round thrill seeker Felix Baumgartner flew in the flight chamber followed by a synchronised performance by Red Bull indoor skydiving athletes. American Sasha DiGiulian, professional rock-climbing champion and Red Bull climbing athlete, scaled SUMMYT in record time.
CLYMB is an impressive indoor facility that offers year round activities for all age groups from complete beginner to expert. Climbing and flying isn’t only for adrenaline junkies but open to anyone who wants to try a new activity, improve existing skills and climbing is a great calorie burner so that’s a great reason to give it a go.
