Japan, the land of the rising sun, a modern and efficient country that seamlessly blends the new with ancient culture. This Asian archipelago offers so much for travellers, every place so different from the last, a sensory overload. Bright neon lights of Osaka to the even brighter craziness that is Tokyo, with its unique pop culture and futurist vibe. Seek out the many temples and shrines in the cultural capital of Kyoto, if you are lucky you might see a Geisha too. Enjoy the natural beauty of the lakes at the foot of Mount Fuji and experience a mountain hideaway or relax at a traditional Ryokan (Japanese Inn).
The affordable and fast bullet trains, the Shinkansen, means it’s easy to traverse and explore this country travelling from city to city with relevant ease, trains are clean, comfortable and always punctual. Travel back in time in Hiroshima, to see for yourself the aftermath of the first A-bomb that caused so much devastation in the area. It’s easy to forget that this immaculately pristine country is in constant threat from natural diasters, typhoons, earthquakes and tsunamis that can cause widespread devastation in a matter of hours. We experienced for ourselves how this country holds up in the face of such adverse weather conditions.
So much to see and experience. Unique cuisine from street food to high end dining, endless choice of sake, a country that is literally shopping extravaganza and where even going to toilet will never be the same again. Here’s a first look at our trip in pictures.
