“Indulge in a collection of signature dishes served directly to your table.” The Foundry

Thursday is fast becoming the new Friday, move over Friday brunch the weekend now starts on Thursday evenings. The Foundry Restaurant, the multi award winning steakhouse at the Southern Sun Abu Dhabi is offering diners an opportunity to kick start the weekend in style with its new Steak Feast concept.

Juicy prime cuts of steak, freshly shucked oysters and premium fine wines are just some of the options on the sharing style menu and the best part, you can order unlimited dishes as part of the steak feast promotion. The Foundry’s signature dishes are prepared to order and delivered straight to your table while you sit back and enjoy being indulged again and again.

While there are many dishes to choose from it was quite confusing as how the concept actually works, we had no idea from the menu of how to enjoy the experience. While the menu was unclear about what, when and how to order our waiter Neville was an absolute delight, completely overworked and running between tables he managed to remain super positive and witty, he had us in stitches every time he came to our table. The restaurant was busy and there was a staff shortage, our bread basket with The Foundry’s famous delicious butters was MIA, our drinks orders were hit and miss (periods of no drinks, periods of multiple drinks) but overall considering the confusion, the experience was positive and the food we sampled was good.

The other half likes a challenge, an eating challenge being his favourite so he steadily worked his way through the menu starting with the choice of the five tasting plates aka starters. He begun with the oysters served with homemade bloody mary as recommended by Neville followed by one of his favourites, wagyu beef carpaccio topped with asparagus, rocket and parmesan shavings. We both tried the tasty and  creamy butternut squash creme with white truffle oil served from a teapot at the table.

He then moved onto the premium beef and once it was established that he could in fact have all the tasting cuts he tucked into the plate of perfectly cooked and seasoned top-notch steaks albeit without a steak knife. The medium-rare Tajima wagyu cube roll, USDA Angus flank and South African Karan tenderloin accompanied by pan roasted vegetables and signature sauce were quickly devoured. While I tucked into a pretty little beetroot risotto and enjoyed my Argentinian Malbec, the other half polished off the butternut pumpkin lasagne AND a miniature portion of pan seared Norwegian salmon.

This vegetarian’s worst nightmare, apart from being served meat, is the chef in full whites coming to the table to talk food, or rather why are you not eating my food. Luckily Chef Cordier was tolerant of my non-meat and fish eating ways at his Steak Feast and made me some lovely dishes, the menu actually caters very well for dairy eating vegetarians to accompany their carnivore friends and family.

We finished up with The Foundry’s signature dessert compilation, a plate of tiny tasting sweet treats, a tangy tropical passionfruit cake, raspberry cheesecake, sorbet and Arabic culture cake. The perfect amount to polish off the meal, something chocolatey would have also been welcomed if I’m being honest.

Award winning elegant steakhouse, The Foundry is a beautiful contemporary restaurant offering an intimate dining experience. The Thursday Steak Feast gives diners the opportunity to try lots of options in an affordable fashion. The decor is chic, copper tones are combined with pastel pink velvet furnishings, oversized overhead lights and dramatic metal alcoves that float on water, it may be design over comfort but nonetheless the whole effect is striking. The menu concept needs clarifying on paper, Neville needs back-up but as Thursday night options go it’s worth a visit especially if The Foundry has been on your radar for a while.
