Siam@Siam Design | Bangkok

Unleash your imagination.” Siam@Siam Design Hotel

From the pristine white-on-white interiors of the Oriental Residence Bangkok to the colourful and boldly decorated Siam@Siam Design Hotel located in the Siam district of the city, our two stays in Bangkok couldn’t have been more different.

This hotel was recommended by one of our group who had stayed here before and was ideal for all of us to stay together (group of ten). Although nowhere near as luxurious as our first hotel this quirky and modern boutique hotel was comfortable and well located for making the most of our one night stay. The colour scheme throughout was quite brash with an eye popping earthy colour palette of red, orange and gold that featured in the industrial style decor, textiles and funky artwork.

There were five types of rooms available in this twenty-five floor property and we were upgraded to a Biz Class room on arrival but were not informed that we had access to ‘My Club’ on the 22nd floor that served breakfast, all-day coffee and tea, evening drinks and canapes, so did not use it. The dramatic interior design from the lobby continued in our large room which resulted in it being quite dark. The bed was reasonably comfortable and the ensuite bathroom was small but adequate, the free Wifi connectivity was good throughout our stay.

The all day dining restaurant PH1 served an international breakfast that was included in our package, the selection was limited and the food was not that great in comparison to the other hotels we experienced in Thailand. PH1 also served lunch and had an a la carte dinner menu but we didn’t try either of these options on this occasion. The elevated outdoor infinity pool was impressive, its position high above the city affording it great views. I really liked the lobby area which was arty and had light flooding in from the huge floor-to-ceiling glass windows, a perfect spot to grab a coffee and take advantage of the many seating areas. The hotel also has a rooftop bar and restaurant, a spa, live music every evening in PH1 and a large bar but we didn’t get to try these due to time limitations.

The best part of this hotel was its location in central Bangkok, literally a few minutes walk from the MBK Shopping Mall and the National Stadium BTS Skytrain station. It was also within walking distance to Jim Thompson House, famed as one of Bangkok’s top tourist attractions and just a short BTS ride away from the more upmarket malls. Street food vendors set up shop just outside the hotel for all those who wanted to indulge.

All the staff we encountered were friendly and professional, we were able to negotiate a late check-out of 4pm which was fantastic considering our early evening flight. I would recommend this hotel if you have a short stay in Bangkok because of its central location, if staying longer there are better options available within the same price range. My top tip would be to book a higher room as the city views are fantastic.
