Last week the teenager and I feasted on a delightful afternoon tea at the Leaning Tower of Abu Dhabi, the Hyatt Capital Gate Hotel. The afternoon tea was served in the Lounge located on the eighteenth floor just off the reception area and coincidentally coincided with Mother’s Day in the UK, so a perfect mother and daughter outing.
High above the city the Lounge has great views and guests can choose from an array of different seating options in the large open area or a more intimate setting in its library area. We were seated in the high winged back chairs next to the window with uninterrupted views across the capital .
The Lounge tea is a simple affair embracing traditional style afternoon tea served on a three tiered stand, no gimmicks or themes just a selection of savoury and sweet treats and a range of premium teas, coffees and a cheeky glass of bubbly if you so desire.
Savouries such as Scottish smoked salmon on brown soda bread, pesto chicken on sundried tomato bread, mini brioche rolls filled with egg mayonnaise and chive were presented with crustless white sandwiches filled with slices of datterino tomato and cucumber. Sweet treats included the pink and yellow marzipan childhood favourite of battenberg cake, rosewater macaroons, mini lemon cheesecakes, chocolate cones and berry tarts with pistachios sat alongside classic scones dusted with icing sugar served with an array of jams, marmalades, lemon curd and clotted cream.
The Guinness World Record leaning Hyatt Capital Gate leans eighteen degrees which is actually four times more than the Tower of Pisa. Located in the centre of Abu Dhabi, the hotel offers several dining options and well appointed rooms, this five-star property is also home to the award winning Rayana Spa.
