“Latest Recipe, where chefs eat-ertain you!” Le Méridien Abu Dhabi

There’s something fishy going at Latest Recipe restaurant at the Le Méridien Abu Dhabi and it would be shell-fish of me not to share it with you all (sorry couldn’t resist). Thursday night is now Seafood Night at this older hotel in the Tourist Club area that has undergone some major transformations over the past year. Under the guidance of new general manager Stuart Birkwood, the hotel has transformed its food and beverage outlets as well as introducing the first Greek restaurant, Acropolis to the capital.

When Le Méridien does a theme it goes all out so the Latest Recipe seafood night is awash with sea inspired props and visual displays, all backlit with deep blue oceanic lighting, even the bread is fish-shaped! Executive Chef, Patrick Van Velzen is a daily visitor to the Abu Dhabi Fishmarket drawing his inspiration from the catch of the day. Seafood Night diners are spoilt for choice with an incredible range of over a hundred delicious options to choose from, there really is something for everyone on this voyage of the taste buds. A wide range of premium beverages including cocktails, fine wines and even champagne are on offer to enhance your experience in a comfortable yet modern setting, let’s not forget the efficient and friendly waiters either!

International flavours dominate the stations with Middle Eastern, Indian, European and Southeast Asian influences making an appearance with unique flavour combinations in many of the various dishes. Every type of fish and crustacean are available from the five interactive live cooking stations located throughout the restaurant, the friendly chefs will even customise your dish with your favourite flavours too. Fresh sushi, sashimi and blue crab sit alongside fish curries at the tandoor section served with the most delicious freshly made Naan breads.

The grill station was proving very popular, with the indoor charcoal grill offering up fresh fish grilled to perfection. Mussels, Omani Lobsters and fresh shucked Fine de claire oysters jostle for attention from their colourful and aromatic ice bed display. A range of chilled starters are displayed and salmon lovers will not be disappointed either as the very best pink flesh Norwegian variety is ready to be devoured. Each station also offers a selection of sauces, dips and pickles to accompany and enhance your selections.

Surprisingly there wasn’t any hammour, the popular cod-like local fish (well if there was I couldn’t find it). Overall I felt there was a good balance of flavours and there was even some meat, accompanying salads and vegetable dishes on offer too, so the evening is also ok for those not keen on seafood. With four well-priced packages to choose from it really is a perfect place for dinner with friends or dining with your family (Latest Recipe even offer guests recipe cards for signature dishes so you can recreate the dishes at home, how cool is that!).

One thing I would most definitely suggest is to make sure you leave room for dessert as all the Latest Recipe sweet treats are on offer at Seafood Night. Fresh baked pastries, crème brulée, exquisite delicate chocolate bites, delicious red velvet squares to name a few, homemade ice cream ready to customise with your favourite toppings or just ripe tasty fruit swirled in the chocolate fountain, all so good yummy, yummy!
