So it’s been very quiet on the blogging front due to two and a half weeks of being constantly on the move in our nomad existence, living out of suitcases (I’ve slept in eight different beds in just over fourteen days) with limited or no decent wifi connectivity, but I’m back and you will now be inundated with my ramblings and visually overpowered with my recent activities.

First stop on the ‘Brett Eight-Week Summer Holiday Tour 2014’ was a two-day mother and daughter surprise ‘Minication’ in Brighton. The teenager had been asking (nagging) me for a while to take her on a trip to the Sussex seaside town, always a favourite of mine so no real hardship really, just a long drive after a long flight.

She follows (likes, watches or whatever you are supposed to say) lots of ‘You Tubers’ (or bloggers, vloggers or something like that) that live in the area and she wanted to check out the sights and shopping as she hasn’t been there since she was much younger. So with that all in mind and a desire to go before the schools broke up, I booked our first two nights in Blightly at the very funky (the teenager said I’m not allowed to use that word “Don’t ever say funky again” she muttered, but as it’s my blog I can) myhotel Brighton which is perfectly located in the North Lanes.

The hotel is a very modern affair decorated in hues of pink and purple, white spaces and sleek curved furniture and bathrooms with contemporary colour changing lighting features throughout. It also boasts a sense of peace through the principles of Feng Shui and a very trendy foyer and cocktail bar that lures you in. I would thoroughly recommend it if you are planning a stay in Brighton in the near future as long as bathroom privacy is not high on your priorities, visit their website here.

Another bonus of the hotel is it proximity to all things Brighton including Bills, the fab restaurant in the former bus depot that serves the most delicious breakfast (we went two days running) great lunch and dinner menu options (we went for dinner too). It also has an in-house produce shop packed with jams, chutneys, sweets and beer and much more and its own cookbook. The trip was filled with meandering down The Lanes checking out the little quirky shops and cafes, playing guitars, street art and vendors, meeting up for dinner with my sister (browse her Brighton based craft blog Little Button Dairies here) and her lovely family (introducing my daughter to her daughter) as well as a stroll down the pier and along the promenade to Hove. Always a colourful place in more ways than one we enjoyed two full days people watching and exploring on foot in glorious sunshine and the best way to share it with you is through photos, so here’s a selection. I think I may have even earned a good mummy point for this surprise!
