Beginner To Winner | Yas Links Golf Course

Golf is deceptively simple and endlessly complicated.” Arnold Palmer

I have just finished my second set of six-week ‘Beginner to Winner’ ladies golf lessons and I know what you are all thinking, she must be beyond bored to take up golf!

Well bored or not I was definitely a beginner at the start and I am most definitely not a winner at the end, the course name over delivered on promise and undersold on results, or perhaps that’s just my sporting prowess and lack of ability! Yep, it’s that for sure! It was no fault of our British PGA professional Craeg, who must be given extra props for starting his working week every Sunday, bright and early with back-to-back ladies groups.

So after all the lessons on the range and three disastrous and very humiliating outings on the nine-hole par-three course with the other half and various friends (that’s twenty-seven holes in total and only one par) my golf has come to an end for now as it’s way too hot out there and my hair expands (think Monica in that Friends episode) ridiculously in the humidity.

So with all the negatives out the way, i.e. golf is the most frustrating game ever and I do not have even an ounce of natural ability, the positives were meeting a group of nice ladies hailing from all over the globe and enjoying the marvellous facilities and views that the Yas Links Golf course has to offer here in Abu Dhabi.

Located on Yas Island, the course sits alongside the water and it’s really a very special location and one that we also visit often on the boat at weekends too. The Andalusian style clubhouse and outdoor terrace are a great place to take visitors and the extensive menu is a hit with all family and friends, the Californian Burger is the best burger in Abu Dhabi according to the teenager who is conducting a one woman burger eating survey. With beer on tap and no tourist tax added to the bill, unlike the hotels, it really is a win win on all fronts except when I’m actually on the course trying to hit the ball!

The game of golf is definitely a personal challenge for any player and one that can be improved throughout a lifetime, if you so choose. Frustrating as it may be when you hit one good shot and can’t fathom why the next 10+ are absolute rubbish (What do I do differently? What can I tweak?), it’s a great way to get outdoors and enjoy nature, the weather and the spectacular scenery. It’s a mental challenge as well as a physical one with far too many things to remember and soooooo many rules! So instead of boring you further with my golf related drivel, I thought I would just share some photos of the beautiful place that is Yas Links Golf Club.
