Happy New Year from anexpatabroad

For last year’s words belong to last year’s language and next year’s words await another voice.” T.S. Eliot

As I look back on 2013, I can’t believe yet another year has whizzed by and I am entering my fifth year of desert living.

As this year draws to a close, it’s surreal to think that we have just celebrated our sixth festive season here in Abu Dhabi. My love/hate relationship with the airport continues, the joy and excitement of my boys arriving and the sheer emotional devastation as they leave. If you were at the airport yesterday I was the quivering wreck hiding behind her sunglasses weeping as my eldest left again, you would think saying goodbye would be getting easier but believe me, each time is harder.

I am not a fan of New Year, New Years Eve and resolutions and all that malarkey. I am the New Year equivalent of ‘Bah Humbug’ at Christmas. It’s a lot of fuss with much too much expectation which generally leads to utter disappointment. That being said I am off to get ready to go out for a cheeky tipple or two with friends over at Yas Island.

Five months ago I started this blog and began to share my expat experiences with family, friends and the WordPress community. Thank you to everyone that has read any posts, followed, liked, commented and shared – all very much appreciated.

Happy New Year and wishing everyone a happy, healthy and prosperous 2014.
